Hi Phillippe,
We received your shipment this morning and have spent some time just marvelling at the timbers! We are delighted with both the ABW and the tambotie - really exceptional beauty.
We look forward to building guitars with these timbers and will send you pictures of the finished product when we do so.
We took moisture readings of everything on arrival - the packages sat in the parcel depot over the weekend, so these readings are straight out of the box. The ABW was between 4% - 5%, perfectly dry. The tambotie was around 8%.
We must compliment you on the packaging also - we've never seen tone wood packaged so well; thank you!
I believe we will be coming back for more in the not too distant future. Thanks & kind regards,

HI Philippe
Abri was here on Sunday and played the mopani guitar, was highly impressed!
My impression of the sound is that it is much warmer, richer and rounder than other steelstring guitars (which often can sound quite tinny or metallic), with an exceptional balance between the treble and the bass strings (this feauture really stands out!).
The sustain is also crisp and prolonged. The sound projects beautifully, and the volume is solid and perfect.
The mopane not only sounds great, but also looks stunning! Thanks once again for a wonderful and unique instrument, I have been playing it a lot the last few days and it is still improving!!

Subject: CONFIRMACION DE ENVIO

Estimado Philippe:

Saludos cordiales

Subject: Thank you!

Dear Philippe,
Please accept my apologies for not responding sooner. The press of business here and my having been out sick for several days (only the flu) has set things back this month, so I'm sorry to say I've had hardly a moment to write you.

We have turned about 150 pieces round so far, and I must say I have not seen wood of this quality in years. So far, we are getting a reject rate of only 10-15%, which, for our purposes, is as good as it has ever been. And I do have information on the reject rate of wood used here at Powell going back to 1956. Like most makers, we "triage" the wood: 1) outright rejects; 2) tolerable quality pieces or pieces that need to be cut shorter than intended to make other parts; and 3) first quality pieces. From what I see of the non-reject pieces, we are getting more than half in the "first quality" category. That makes a rate of nearly 50% for very first quality pieces, and the remainder quite good quality as well. These will mostly not be used for piccolo bodies because of knots, small inclusions, too abrupt a change in the direction of the grain, etc. But the overall character of the wood is quite good, and almost every piece that I can't make into a piccolo body can be made into a head joint.

Recently, from other suppliers, we've had reject rates of over 40%, with almost no pieces in the first quality category. Having had results like this, we would certainly have no hesitancy to recommend you to other makers, and I would also be very happy to supply references for you to other makers. Best wishes,
Tim Burnett

Subject: Best African Blackwood

Good Afternoon Philippe
This past weekend I bored the blanks form the initial shipment and did the initial turning down to 21.50 mm diameter in order to see what I had for quality. What I received from Prosono was the best wood I ever saw. All the pieces were indeed musical quality. I have never had a 100% yield before. You made me a very happy fife maker.
Do you have any more of the air dried African Blackwood (Dalbergia melanoxylon) in stock and if so what would be the current price? As you may recall my dimensions were about 460 x 27 27 +/- a couple of mm. I cold probably go as low as 25 x 25 mm square.

Thanks again

Subject: ABW & Mopane Wood Arrived Safely to Weber Reeds,

Dear Philippe,
The ABW looks truly excellent, indeed. I've turned one ABW oboe bell blank and find the wood wonderful, smooth and consistent throughout. No knots, checks or weak spots. The seasoning seems quite wonderful. I'll let the younger Mopane rest before turning it. The Mopane looks just as lovely, colorful and fine grained.
I'm very happy to have this wood from you. Your service has been wonderful. The wood is cut exactly to measurement the shipping crate seemed to be made to order, as the 60 pieces fit perfectly. The bubble wrap sealed the wood inside the crate, and it did not seem to have been breached by customs.
Thank you again, and I'll be recommending Prosono International to anyone interested in quality wood for woodwind musical instruments.
Sincerely,
David Weber

Dear Philippe;
I received the wood yesterday evening. I am delighted. The Blackwood is the most flawless set I've seen. Blackwood can be obtained in North America, but in wide material, there is generally sapwood. This looks nice, but is less predictable.
The Mopani is rather unique to me; I had no idea that anything this size existed. I've seen it as marquetry, and will design an instrument around it. As far as I am aware, nobody up north here lists it other than small veneer. Most suppliers have never even heard of it. Might I try and establish some connections for you? Shipping to North America is rather expensive, but I am not the only serious maker over here. Thank you!
Sincerely,

Hello Philippe,
Sorry for the delay.
I would like to go for the 2 sets by air mail. I know it is not the most economical method, but I am in a bind and need them fairly quick if you can let me know total costs and your account details ill make the transfer asap. You might be interested to know that one of the Blackwood sets you sent last time is being played by one of Australia’s best pipers and he is wining solo piping awards left right and centre with them.
Cheers
Cory
